The Rubber Plant (Ficus elastica)is a tough but easy going indoor plant that can reach staggering heights within just a few years. The shiny glossy leaves look great in most homes.

Dr Wolverton ranks the Rubber Plant as one best houseplants to clean the air. It is also resistance to pests and diseases and has a high transpiration rate which increases the humidity of the room it lives in. It's good for your health.

More modern cultivars and closely related varieties are Ficus robusta, Ficus Decora, and the dark green almost black leaved Black Prince & Ficus Burgundy & also some of the Variegated Rubber Plant types.

 CARE AND GROWING TIPS:

Foliage / Indoor Plant

Exposure
Grow away from continuous direct sunlight. Prefer a well-lit spot with some indirect sun if possible.

The all green types will take some shade and poorly lit spaces, but too much for too long, the plant will become lanky and spindly.

For variegated type need bright indirect light, the plant loose its markings in shade.

Normal indoor room temperatures 10°C (50°F) to 29°C (85°F).

Water
Once a week.

And don't over watered or it will drop leaves and suffer from root rot.

Soil
Growing media of sandy compost or perlite.

Fertilizer
For massive leaves, fertilize little and often is best, a weak balanced feed every couple of watering or once a month.

Don't fertilize recently repotted and new plants for a good 3 to 6 months.

 REASONS YOURFICUS MAY NOT BE DOING WELL:
Leaves curling or drooping -over watering or over 29°C in temperature.

Yellowing leaves – normal for old leaves or over watering or insufficient light.
