Blooming with Love, Blooming with Edcelyn

Edcelyn, or as we all call her, Edc (or Eds) started with us as part of the production team working on wedding set ups, events and putting bouquets together in the cold room and production room. 

Today, Edc who comes from Manilla, Philippines, is part of the Lifestyle team over at Simei, working her magic on floral design for our curated collections and bringing magic to our Experiential Garden Centre. 

We sit with her and talk a little bit about her challenges growing up as a woman in the Philippines and working away from home & country. 

What has so far been your biggest challenge as a woman?

When I was growing up, most of the people around me deemed that women can only do limited things, they are used to the idea that women depend on men, professionally and even in building a family. And they thought that applies to me as well.

What support did you get / were looking for?

Since young, I have only relied on myself – but I did not see this in a negative way. It helped me build a strong heart for compassion, a strong mind to decide for my life and a strong body to endure any physical pain. 

Were you able to overcome your challenge with the support or you couldn't find the support?

Definitely. Especially when along the way, I have met different strong &  independent women who have similar values and beliefs as mine. 

What do you want to say to other women out there who might be going through similar challenges as yourself?

As women, we can do a lot of things that are beyond what society thinks we can do. You just gotta believe and trust yourself that you can and will do anything to achieve your goals and dreams. Surround yourself with people that will lift you up and not drag you down.
