Our Experiential Garden Centre at Simei was always built with community in mind. In the midst of a pandemic, we launched multiple initiatives to give support to issues closest to our hearts. 

In March 2021, WonderWomen@SSS was birthed to encourage the women in our communities to come together in conversation. This initiative holds a very special place in our hearts as Sing See Soon’s Gen 2 and Gen 3 matriarchs were widowed young.  

“I met my great-grandmother briefly with her bound feet but had the privilege to grow up with my grandmother. One of my fondest memories, has to be sitting in front of the  Syed Alwi Road shophouse (original SSS location)  tearing yellow pages for grandma to wrap loose flowers into triangle packs. We were selling those to temple goers at 5¢ each. If I was well behaved, she would let me staple the top of the triangle. How simple life was back then.  

My grandmother single-handedly raised all her 9 children and unfortunately most of them had to sacrifice education to continue building the business for future generations, my generation.” 

Wonder Women@SSS is dedicated to celebrating female lives and paying homage to all the strong inspiring women we know. Our initiative celebrates achievements, growth & sacrifices. It encourages self-love and care as well as creates a platform to support each other with heartfelt conversations to motivate each of us to appreciate the journeys we have taken or are taking. 

We are so grateful to all the wonderful ladies who stepped forward to contribute to the success of our inaugural WonderWomen@SSS in 2021. 

It was an uplifting day of activities hosted by female entrepreneurs with one main objective in mind – a day of celebrating and empowering women; 

We had Elizabeth Grimberg (Health/Wellness Life Coach) to get everyone’s heartbeat pumping in a short warm-up session with her signature fuchsia drumsticks. This was followed by a Floral Jamming for a Cause with Team SSS for the residents at St Andrew’s Community Hospital. The guests then got a chance to make their own healthy bites for lunch in a culinary experience with Chef Samia (Coriander Leaf), making Vietnamese rolls, using microgreens from Urban Sproutz. 

2021’s panel included Wonder Women like Jade Amar (Sexual wellness), Laila White (TV host/ Lifestyle personality), Renee Tan (HER Entrepreneurs) as well as banker turned farmer Debra Tay (founder of Urban Sproutz), and founder of Swapaholic, Priyanka Shahra, who also rounded our day off with a fun Fashion Swap right here in our space!  

This year, WonderWomen@SSS kicks off a month of celebrating the Wonder of Women with Gracelyn our CEO on 4,5 & 6 of March – A ride & floral experience with 100% of the proceeds from the experience going towards Breast Cancer Foundation Sg. 

On 13 March, 2022 – in conjunction with International Women’s Day 2022 –  we continue the conversation with a different twist.

We are not just going to talk about the struggles that women face at work, in health and in our personal lives. We won’t just highlight the success stories. Instead, we are going to focus on the strength and support that we need to raise ourselves up. To be heard. To be seen. To effect change.
