With the exponential growth in interest for growing, we see more and more exotic plants being kept & grown. And while regular potting soil may do OK for planting in the ground, the 70% of us apartment-dwellers are gonna need to make sure our potted babies do just as well in their containers.
Understanding the difference between “potting soil” and “potting mix” is key to ensuring that our plants then live their best potted lives!
Before we dive into the world of potting media and soil amendments, lets get to know some of the more common media types out there shall we?
The 6 media types shown here, may sometimes be used on their own, with and without added nutrients if it’s soilless. However, they are also often used as soil amendments, to improve the properties of regular potting/ gardening soil.
But that’s a topic for another day, another blog.
In the meantime, do have a read on the types of plants you have and what kind of media and how much water they prefer. So when the next plant care tip comes along, you’re ready to dive into amending your soil together with us!
Oh, and one last thing. We are almost alway talking about hydration here. So do also have a think about your own watering habits. Do you like to water your plants regularly or do you like to water and leave your plants alone? This would also factor into the kind of media and how you’re gonna amend your soil that’s the best mix for your potted babies!
Until the next blog! XOXO
